Big ryokan tucked away a long walk or a short shuttle ride away from Yamanakaonsen, which is the main town area. They offer a free shuttle to and from the train station that you reserve with them the day before or to the town that you can reserve the morning of. The service was impeccable. From the driver, front desk, restaurant staff, to the housekeeping, every detail was paid attention to for you to make the most out of your stay on the property. Would highly recommend getting the breakfast and dinner package with your stay and getting lunch when you explore the nearby towns. It's very traditional and a great tasting experience of Japanese cuisine. You also get to pick your own yakuta pattern to personalized your attire while you're there. The onsen was massive and had a great open space too. They also had complimentary snacks, I've cream, sake, whiskey, tea, hot chocolate, and wine that was self serve in the evenings.

Food - dinner and breakfast; were outstanding. The room was a very nice size, came with a terrace overlooking the river. Service was excellent. The driver was waiting for us at the train station (we had communicated with the hotel on our arrival time). The waitress who tended to us for our meals was very friendly and made small talk with us. When we left, the driver even dropped us off at the car rental shop. Onsen was very relaxing. It was the off-peak season so we pretty much had the onsen to ourselves.

Other reviews about the ryokan are accurate. This is a place to come and unwind for one/two nights. Beautiful setting, serene with a great onsen. However slightly out of the way to get to - although staff will pick you up and drop you off directly from the JR station. Nor should you expect a super modern room, has a sort of 20th century feel (in a good way). The evening meal had some of the freshest tasting seafood I have ever had (mid February).

The food here was some of the best I've ever had in my life. Traditional Japanese cuisine, elegantly served in our cozy private dining room. It's very serene here. The onset facility is lovely - but don't miss the one in town, too!

Exceptional. The hotel is stunning. The food was amazing. Extremely relaxing place. The service was perfect. One of our best memories of Japan.
